I would like to share my Favorite Birthday quotes…
” Your birthday is a special time to celebrate the gift of ‘you’ to the world.” ~Anonymous
“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” ~Abraham Lincoln
“Sooner or later we all discover that the important moments in life are not the advertised ones, not the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings, not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are less prepossessing. They come to the door of memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in, sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our lives are measured by these.” ~Susan B. Anthony
I have been very lucky in friendship…
I may not have the wealth or success that some can claim, but I know what it is to have people in my life who know me well, like me just as I am (well, most of the time), listen to me, make me laugh, support me always, and who make my life better on a regular basis.
No friendship is an accident… it takes a lot of hard work. My daughters used to ask me, during some of the more difficult times, why I had so many friends who did so much for me… I explained that it is not because I am such a great guy, but because I work very hard at making and keeping friends. Relationships are like muscle tissue… the more they are engaged, the stronger and more valuable they become.
Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest, it’s about who walked into your life, said “I’m here for you,” and PROVED it. For me it has been a few very special people… time and time again. Because of you my friends, and you know who you are, I know what REAL friendship means… and that is about as lucky as a guy can get. Thank you all, and know you are sincerely loved and appreciated… xoxo
and some favorite Friendship quotes…
“I’d like to be the sort of friend that you have been to me, I’d like to be the help that you’ve been always glad to be; I’d like to mean as much to you each minute of the day, as you have meant old friend of mine, to me along the way.” ~Edgar A. Guest
“Truly great friends are hard to find, difficult to leave, and impossible to forget.” ~William Randolph Hearst
“Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.” ~Tennessee Williams
“The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing… not healing, not curing… that is a friend who cares.” ~Henri Nouwen
“There are those who pass like ships in the night, who meet for a moment, then sail out of sight with never a backward glance of regret; folks we know briefly then quickly forget. Then there are friends who sail together, through quiet waters and stormy weather, helping each other through joy and through strife. And they are the kind who give meaning to life.” ~Unknown (*I have been fortunate to have a number of these, you all know who you are… as dear to me as life itself.)
“A good friend is a connection to life, a tie to the past, a road to the future, the key to sanity in a totally insane world.” ~Lois Wyse
“A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.”
“Life is to be fortified by many friendships. To love and to be loved is the greatest happiness of existence.” ~Sydney Smith
And most importantly… “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ted, from my life experience I find a key trait for healthy friendships is a mutuality mindset. One sign is that the relationship is not based on a quid pro quo yet an ebb and flow of support over time. Also the value of having diverse allies is that we can see more sides to a situation, thus often able to make smarter decisions and sometimes innovations
Yes indeed Kare… thanks for your always valuable commentary and insight.
Congratulations and wish you a very Happy Birthday Ted Rubin 🙂
May God Bless you to keep rocking with your Blog.
Thank you so much Nia.
