Follow-up Blog post to… Culture of Community… https://tedrubin.
Creating a positive culture within a company is crucial for employee engagement, productivity, and overall success. But in today’s fast-paced business environment, simply having a good culture is not enough. Companies need to go beyond creating a culture and start nurturing an employee community.
An employee community is more than just a group of individuals working together towards a common goal. It‘s a group of individuals who share a sense of belonging, purpose, and ownership. It‘s a group of individuals who support each other, collaborate, and share their knowledge and expertise. By fostering a sense of community within the organization, companies can create a sense of engagement, collaboration and a more positive work environment.
There are several ways companies can nurture an employee community:
- Encourage employee participation: Employees should be encouraged to share their ideas, opinions, and feedback. By doing so, they will feel more invested in the company’s success.
- Foster collaboration: Encourage employees to work together and share their knowledge and expertise. This will lead to better communication, increased productivity, and a more positive work environment.
- Provide opportunities for employee growth: Employees should be provided with opportunities to develop their skills and advance their careers. This will lead to a more engaged and motivated workforce.
- Recognize and reward employees: Companies should acknowledge and reward employees for their hard work and contributions. This will lead to a more engaged and motivated workforce.
- Foster a sense of belonging: Employees should feel like they belong in the organization. This can be achieved by creating a sense of community through events, team-building activities, and open communication.
In summary, companies need to step beyond creating a culture and start nurturing an employee community. By fostering a sense of belonging, purpose, and ownership among employees, companies can create a more engaged, motivated, and productive workforce. Because… A Network gives you Reach; A Community gives you Power! Networks Connect… Communities Care.
Fully agree Ted. We are seeing this clearly…especially a culture of purpose/responsible practices fostering a community of like-minded, driven associates aligned with these goals.
Yes indeed Mark. To extend upon that… Create a movement, a cause, a revolution for your employees to work towards, instead of a company to work for. Not perfectly stated by me, but you get my drift. I created a meme like this while discussing with Dev Mukherjee during a Brand Innovators I was emcee’ing in May 2019.
Hey Ted,
Great article.
Not only having a community at work, but connecting your work to the community creates even greater trust and opportunities among our team members, coworkers and customers.
This connectivity avoids the “localwashing” of businesses who claim to be “part of the community” when they’re not.
And no matter where one lives as part of the organization, they’re local somewhere!
Yes indeed Mike, this is a very important insight. Thank you for sharing.
