First Father’s Day without my Dad, there is a void, an expectation that he is still here, as he ALWAYS will be for me.

This says it all… “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me” ~Jim Valvano

“We thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
We know you’re always with us.
But it is not the same.
Your memory is a keepsake.
With which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
We have you in our heart.”

Love you Dad, now and always! xoxo  #‎RonR

*For many years now Father’s Day has been more about being a son, than being a Dad myself since the day for me as a Dad has been a difficult one since 2008. Another year without so much as a card, or even the words Happy Fathers Day. It is hard, even with very low expectations firmly in place. But I am resolved to stay the course, no matter how long it takes, and always be here, and present, for my girls. I hold onto pre-1998 memories with a passion and firm grip and keep them close to my heart always.

Niki broke away from Mom’s planned events for lunch with me. No card, “Happy Fathers Day” greeting, or hug, etc., but for me the time was enough. I take what I can get and smile to have had it. I have made the conscious decision to be thankful for what I have, rather than be unhappy about what I do not. It’s all about attitude. Happy Father’s Day everyone 🙂

Had to share this amazing email from a great friend I am so fortunate to have in my life, thank you Gregg!…

Ted, I know this is not the easiest day for you. But I want to take a moment to make sure you think about a few things today:

1) You are a great dad to your girls, and what you give to them is the sunshine and water to turn the seed of love and appreciation into a garden. That garden grows inside you and inside them, and take the time to appreciate every individual blossom. Sometimes staring at a single flower is more beautiful than an entire garden.

2) Your dad is with you today — and everyday. I know you feel a void, and that is understandable. But today, do something really awesome that your dad loved doing. And think about him doing it with you. You’ll feel it, and so will he. Dedicate the day to him, and stop each moment you think about him and tell him you love him, and show him the things (those things you do, those things you are) that are all because of him. He lives ongoing through your memories and actions.

3) Father’s Day isn’t just about our own dads and kids. It’s about all the dads in our lives. So, I’m happy to celebrate our friendship — dad to dad. Thanks for being a really awesome guy!

High Fives & #Sockies,

Gregg
