When we think like children, we unlock a world of curiosity, playfulness, and boundless imagination. Children don’t worry about limitations or what others might think—they explore, ask questions, and dive into creativity without fear. They see the world as a place filled with possibilities, where even the simplest things can spark wonder. Adopting this mindset opens the door to creative breakthroughs. Instead of getting stuck on perfection or logic, embrace the joy of experimenting, learning from mistakes, and looking at things from fresh, unconventional angles.
At a Keynote Presentation recently I asked the audience a question, “Do you think you’re a great artist?” Not many adults raised their hands, but I made the point that if you ask a room full of children the same question, just about EVERY hand goes up! They don’t just think, in their own minds they “know” that they’re great. They don’t have self-imposed limitations, and they can’t wait to share their creations. Plus, they bond instantly with each other. Just think about the possibilities for your business if you could “let go” and tap into that childlike enthusiasm.
Changing your mindset to work more creatively starts with letting go of rigid thinking. Often, as adults, we focus too much on rules or what’s “practical.” But when you approach challenges with childlike openness, you free yourself to explore new ideas and solutions. Try things just to see what happens. Imagine “what if” rather than “what is.” This shift in perspective makes room for creativity to flourish, allowing you to come up with innovative ideas that truly work. So, next time you’re feeling stuck, think like a child, and let your creativity run wild!
There is no better RETURN ON RELATIONSHIP than Return on Relationship with yourself, and no better way to foster that than “what if” rather than “what is.”
